Coffee, Cookies and Creativity

May 25, 2023 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm

Dear Dietrich School Graduate Students,

This summer, Associate Dean Woon and members of the Graduate Studies office are collaborating with the Center for Creativity (C4C) to host a series of coffee breaks in the Text & conText Lab at Hillman Library (310HL). Our first event will be held on Thursday, May 25th from 1:00pm-2:30pm.

The Center for Creativity seeks to foster connections between and among members of the University community whose scholarly efforts and passions are rooted in making stories, pictures, music, scenes, statements, apps, messes, etc.

The Text & conText Lab,  a partnership between the Center for Creativity and the University Library System, provides an active environment for the creation, manipulation, and/or disassembly of text for people who value curiosity and imagination, and where both risk-taking and careful attention to craft are recognized as important aspects of creative work.

We would love to have you join us to:

Spark your creativity
Enjoy coffee, tea, and snacks
Enhance your wellness
Meet other graduate students
Learn more about resources available at C4C and Text & conText
Chat with members of the graduate studies team

The featured activity will be to create a 6-word story the old-fashioned way: by typesetting and using a printing press! You might print an inspirational quote, mantra, motto – something you want to remind yourself or emphasize this summer, or maybe a phrase related to your research topic, dissertation, paper, etc – or something entirely different. Take a little time out of the lab or away from your computer and just be creative!

Additional workshop opportunities may include bookbinding, papermaking, and much more. No experience is necessary, and all are welcome! Please RSVP by May 18th if you plan to attend. RSVP here

Best,

Dietrich School Graduate Studies + C4C
